PDX Auto Show 2023

We start every year out with a visit to the Portland International Auto Show. 2023 wasn’t any different, as we once again had a display in the "Garage" section of the show.

AR had three cars on display with two client vehicles and our trusty #32 Spec E46 rental car. Attendees were definitely drawn to the allure of the 996 RSR Porsche that is owned by our client Xuanqian. With it only being 1 of 23 left in the world it was a popular car that people had lots of questions about. Although originally built by Porsche back in 2004 the car has such a timeless aesthetic. The royal and orange livery is definitely an eye catcher but suits the period correctness of it well. When this car was acquired by Xuanqian, it was imported from Europe. It came fitted with a 997 motor. We were able to source a proper 996 3.6 liter motor and had it installed and running a few weeks prior to the show. We’ve done some additional service to it installing some more modern amenities such a paddle shift system and a Chillout cool suit system in preparation for this car to be on track locally in 2023 for some special events and Vintage races. It’s a shame people couldn’t hear the exhaust note as it certainly would have made an even more lasting impression on visitors. If you ask us, a proper 996 RSR might be one of the best sounding Porsche race cars to ever leave the factory in Weissach.

We also had a more modern example of a Porsche GT race car onsite with David Hampton’s Porsche Cayman GT4 Club Sport. Being a Manthey Racing edition it comes suited with air jacks, an upgraded bigger fuel cell, carbon front hood / doors, along with an upgraded rear wing. We had lots of visitors stop by the booth mentioning they owned the car’s street counterpart. Lots of questions were asked and even more photos were taken as people admired a more current factory built Porsche race car. David will be making his professional debut at the Trans-Am West Series in the 2023 season.

And lastly we had ol’ reliable at the show, our Spec E46. This car has visited the show a few times now and is a hit with spectators as they are able to sit inside. With over 100+ cars at the show, most of which being brand new street cars, it’s a unique experience for people to sit in a fully stripped and built race car. A lot fewer amenities and no interior is certainly not the site most are used to. We were constantly helping both young and old in and out of the car. Seeing the smiles from kids is a really gratifying thing. We have to start inspiring the next generation of racers and car enthusiasts somehow!

The show always gives us a great opportunity to meet and connect with the local car community. It’s also a place we see many of our friends. Thanks to everyone who came and said hello!
